Samsung Announces World's Slimmest Watch Phone

Following in LG’s footsteps it seems, Samsung has just announced their mobile phone wrist watch, the S9110. The device is supposed to be the world's thinnest wristwatch mobile phone at 11.98mm. Definitely thinner than LG’s contribution to wrist technology, then again, Samsung does have a knack for slimming things down.


The S9110 also features -

• a 1.76-inch touchscreen, scratch resistant (obviously) display (176 x 220 pixel resolution)
• speech recognition technology
• Bluetooth with A2DP
• Music player
• Outlook Syncing
• Stainless steel metal body with a leather strap

From the looks of it the S9110 is a classy piece of technology. There’s no mention of internal memory or if it has external memory support. What does seem a bit surprising is that that there’s also no mention of 3G connectivity like LG's GD910.



The handset is going to be priced at about Rs. 31,000 (450 Euro) and is heading for Europe first. Dick Tracy must be smiling his head off somewhere!

LG Launches Three New Handsets in India

LG has just launched three new handsets into the Indian market - GB270, KP265 and GB210. These new handsets have some pretty funky designs. One of the key features in these new handsets is RockeTalk. This is a Social Networking and Instant Messengers aggregation application. It will allow users to log onto Gtalk, Yahoo Messenger or send a message in any combination of text, voice, pictures, audio or video to anyone, anywhere in the world. With various free online usage options like downloads, video chat messaging, unlimited group chat, and unlimited text messaging etc., the feature will allow users to stay connected.

With these launches, we aim to strengthen the bond with our consumers and also reach out to those who love to stay connected to their peers and desires a phone with good looks,” said Anil Arora, Business Group Marketing Head, Mobile Communication, LG Electronics Pvt Ltd.

LG GB270


The first handset, the LG GB270 is designed to be one phone with two different styles as it allows for changeable covers (1 cover included). The handset features a dual GUI theme. Every time you change the Cover, an Option pops up to decide the Business or Casual theme to match the Look of the Phone. Users will also be able to Sketch, Engrave or Emboss photos taken with the VGA camera. Other features include -

• Bluetooth 1.2
• FM radio with use as an alarm
• EQ
• microSD card support (1GB provided, supports up to 2GB)
• Support for WAP 2.0 and Java

LG KP265


The second handset, the LG KP265 is a slider. It will be available in color combinations of red silver and black. It’ll feature -

• 1.7-inch TFT LCD (128 x 160 pixel resolution)
• 3.5mm earphone socket
• GPRS
• Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP with an option of sending free messages using Bluetooth Messaging
• a 1.3 MP camera
• an MP3 player with equalizers
• FM radio
• Scheduled SMS
• frontal speakers with 21 sound levels
• microSD card support (1GB provided)

LG GB210


The third one called the LG GB210 looks a little similar to the GM200 except for the nav-pad and call keys. It has a metallic finish which tends to give it a bit of a classy look and feel. The feature set includes -

• a 1.3 MP camera
• an MP3 player with equalizers
• Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and Messaging
• frontal speakers with 21 sound levels
• GPRS with modem feature
• Scheduled SMS
• microSD card support (1GB provided, supports up to 4GB)

These new LG handsets are priced at Rs. 4,599 for the GB270, Rs. 4999 for the KP265 and Rs. 4399 for the GB210LG.

However the prices for Maharashtra are - Rs 4850 for the GB270, Rs 5225 for the KP265 and Rs. 4625 for the GB210.

BlackBerry Desktop Software Heading For Mac in September

Mac users rejoice, only if you also happen to be a BlackBerry smartphone user as well. Inside BlackBerry, the Official BlackberryBlog, has announced that BlackBerry Desktop Software is heading to Mac this September.

Aside for support for Mac OS 10.5.5 and above other features would include -

Sync your iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks
Add/Remove applications
Update your device when new software becomes available
Backup and restore your device data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption
Manage multiple devices

HTC Possibly Working on New QWERTY Keyboard Handset

Another rumor making the rounds is from the HTC camp. It appears that HTC might be refurbishing an older handset, the Universal, that was a cross between a tablet laptop with a swivel screen and a Nokia Communicator with a full QWERTY keypad. The new handset, being dubbed the HTC Leo, could have similar features with slight variations of course.

According to reports, the Leo comes equipped with an 800 x 480 pixel resolution display (no information on the screen size yet) with a smaller screen in front that has a 320 x 240 pixel resolution. There’s a lot of speculation about the Operating System as of now. The same reports are also talking about it possibly having “OpenGL ES 2.0 acceleration” which could mean it might run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

As of now nothing has been confirmed by the company so we’ll have to wait and see. Stay tuned.

Samsung Launches Lavender Series of LCD Monitors

Samsung India has announced the launch of a new series of LCDmonitors - Samsung Lavender - in the Indian market.

The new Lavender series is available in screen sizes of 21.5-inches and 23-inches and features the Touch of Color (ToC) design, a contrast ratio of 50000:1, a response time of 2 ms; viewing angle of 170/160 and a 16:9 wide format panel that is made for multimedia and optimized for HD Content .

Ranjit Singh Yadav, Director – IT Business, Samsung India, said, "In keeping with the global and Indian market trends where the 16:9 Wide format display monitors are rapidly becoming popular with consumers, we have introduced our stylish Lavender series in the Indian market , in the over 20-inch screen size segment."

The Lavender series has a slimmer neck compared to conventional models and has front OSD Touch buttons that emit red lighting from under the panel. Inspired by shifting colors of the sunset and ToC technology, the Lavender series eliminates the need of using non-biodegradable components in manufacturing of exterior panels, making it 100% recyclable and environmentally friendly.

The Lavender Series also consumes less than 1W of power in the Power Off mode making it more energy efficient than the conventional monitors and is wall mountable.

The 21.5-inch model costs Rs. 12,500 and 23-inch model costs Rs. 13,500.
